Meet the Team

At the heart of Marvellous Microbes is our inspiring team of creatives. Meet award winning singer-songwriter Katie Doherty, and incredible theatre writer-director, Laura Lindow who both bring their boundless creativity to the project. We’ve Roma Yagnik composing, Rachel Glover production managing and Imogen Melhuish on set and props design. Anne Hornsby is helping us with integrated audio description and we’re working with Jeannie May Adam as assistant facilitator.

Laura Lindow

Laura is a Scottish Writer and Director. She is currently Artist In Residence with Newcastle Theatre Royal.

Writing credits include: Writer In Residence for Newcastle Hospitals Charity/New Writing North; 3 Acts of Love for Live Theatre;  Baba Yaga for Theatre Hullabaloo; The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Snow Queen and The War Of The Worlds for Northern Stage;  The Christmas Tree for Durham’s Gala; The Ultimate Pickle for Paines Plough (Roundabout 2022); Pause for Alphabetti Theatre;  Credit and Woven Bones for Cap-a-Pie; Beyond The End of the Road for November Club; Heartbreak Soup for Laura Lindow/The Empty Space; Tidal, Novak’s immersive instillation at Laing Art Gallery as part of the Lindisfarne Gospel’s exhibition, 2022.

Directing credits include: As Associate Director for Open Clasp Theatre Company 2014-2024 Key Change (with New York Transfer, Critics’ Pick in New York Times and Winner of Best Overall Event Journal Culture Awards 2017), Don’t Forget The Birds (Journal Culture Awards’ Performance of The Year 2019), Sugar (broadcast 2019/20 on BBC iPlayer), Lasagna (film & live Tour); Mycelial (currently in edit for cinema broadcast 2024).

In 2018/19 she was part of The Royal Court Writers’ Group (North) and was the Journal Culture Award winner of Writer of the Year, 2019. As Lead Clown Doctor for Tin Arts, Laura ‘treads the wards’ as Dr. Lulu McDoo, working with hospitalised children and their families.

Katie Doherty

Katie Doherty is an award-winning songwriter, well known for her work with theatre. She has written songs and composed scores for countless productions, including many for November Club, with whom she is currently developing a brand-new musical Josey, Northern Stage, Open Clasp, Cap-a-Pie, and The RSC.

As a performer, Katie has performed alongside Kathryn Tickell and Nitin Sawhney and supported Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Karine Polwart, and Ray Davies, among others. With her band Katie Doherty and The Navigators, Katie released her second album in 2019 to critical acclaim, with airplay all over Europe and live sessions on BBC Radio 2 and 3. Her third album with The Navigators, FLOW, entered the official Folk Album Charts top 30 in August 2022. Katie is also extremely proud to work with incredible North East organisations such as Blue Cabin and Tin Arts, delivering and creating music and song for and with young people across the region.

Roma Yagnik

Roma is a British composer for film, television, theatre, and events based in the North East of England. Her film work includes the feature doc No One Told Me, sci-fi comedy-drama Pinky, and the dramatisation of the UK’s criminal justice system, Sugar (BBC iPlayer). She has composed for shorts such as Washington and Vine (starring The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Gavin Leatherwood), The Mime (Hulu/FX), and Ruby (Dir. Katja Roberts). Roma’s music has been featured on HBO, Netflix, BBC, Sky Arts, and in ad campaigns for Google Health, UEFA Champions League, and Barker & Stonehouse.

In 2021, she was commissioned by the British Library to write Animal Orchestra, a four-movement work using sounds from the library’s nature archive. Her music has been featured in major events, including the closing ceremony of the Great Exhibition of the North, the Rugby League World Cup opening in 2022, and Resurgam at St. Paul’s Cathedral for the Greenwich + Docklands International Festival in 2023.

Roma’s theatre work includes the critically acclaimed UK premiere of Claudia Rankine’s The White Card and the UK Theatre Award-winning world stage premiere of Ken Loach and Paul Laverty’s I, Daniel Blake.

Rachel Glover

Rachel is a freelance stage and production manager, theatre maker, and facilitator. She has worked regionally and nationally on a wide variety of projects for companies such as Open Clasp, Curious Monkey, New Writing North, Newcastle Theatre Royal, and Alphabetti Theatre. Rachel is also a member of the Suggestibles improv comedy group, performing regularly across the North East.

Imogen Melhuish

Imogen Melhuish is a Midlands-based theatre designer and maker, graduating from Nottingham Trent University in 2019. A selection of recent design credits includes: PakIt In (UK Tour), Not the Last (MAC, Birmingham), Feel Me (UK Tour), Boys Will be Boys (Leeds Conservative), Hey Diddle Diddle (Northern Stage, Newcastle), and Let’s Play Messing Around (Derby Theatre, UK Tour).

Jeannie May Adam

Jeannie May Adam is a freelance creative, actor, singer, and facilitator from Newcastle. With diverse facilitation experience spanning from Drama & Musical Theatre to forest school and outdoor education, Jeannie is very excited to delve into the world of Marvellous Microbes and to be working with Cap-a-Pie once again.

Anne Hornsby

Anne Hornsby is the Director of Mind’s Eye, which provides audio descriptions for theatres, galleries, museums, and festivals all over the country, as well as for online projects. This is the second time Anne has worked with Cap-a-Pie. She very much enjoys being involved in the collaboration of deciding what needs describing and how best to incorporate the description into the piece. Anne is an award-winning audio describer with over 30 years of experience in this field.

Anna Melling

Anna Melling is a Makaton Tutor who has worked in the community sector for over 20 years running her own Community Interest Company. Delivering training, consultancy and arts based inclusive activities she supports professionals, families, and volunteers in learning Makaton to enhance services and improve the lives of those with communication needs. As well as being a licensed Makaton tutor Anna is an Arts Award advisor and IDTA dance teacher and has a huge passion for the Arts! 

Anna adores supporting others through delivering Makaton training, collaborative projects and working directly with Makaton users combining communication training and creative approaches.
