Board of Trustees

Laura Smith

Laura is a parent, researcher, performer and proud blind woman whose life has been shaped and enriched by a lifelong connection to the arts.

She is currently in her third year of studying for a PhD at Northumbria University, using creative, storytelling research methods to capture the experiences of disabled parents and to challenge limiting, normative narratives around disability and parenthood.

Laura is passionate about the power of the arts to amplify voices, build connections and drive social change. Her values align closely with Cap-a-Pie’s mission to create inclusive and reflective spaces where everyone can participate and see their experiences represented.

Through Cap-a-Pie’s collaborations with local schools, Laura has seen first-hand the impact of creative learning on children’s confidence and curiosity, something she’s excited to help shape as a trustee.
