That brings us to the end of Module 2. You should now have some ideas of how you can use images in your teaching. To recap, images can be a really powerful teaching tool and you can use them in the classroom in a variety of ways. Photographs, illustrations, maps and other images can be used in standalone activities or as the starting point for project and inquiry-based learning. Getting your students to ‘step inside’ a picture or to create a map from memory are simple activities that can easily be built into a single lesson. The National Gallery’s Take One Picture approach enables students to develop their own lines of enquiry and use one image as inspiration for a whole project. In the next module you’ll explore some different ways of using historical documents in the classroom.
